Texas from summer to fall

We are here. In Texas. Not melted (mostly).

Ok, so really once October hit the weather here has been cooler. I don't know that I will ever get used to the heat of summer and for now am grateful it is over. Coming from Oregon rain to Texas rain has been a big shock for me. Rainstorms feel like monsoons in Texas. They are loud, heavy, warm, short and drenching. Since this area has been in a drought, I am grateful it is raining but no one warned me that it seems like your taking a second shower if you're outside in a rainstorm for only a few seconds. Not to mention the thunder and lightening. Talk about loud. I nearly jumped out of my pj's the first night we had a storm. Definitely not the Oregon mist/drizzle I grew up with.

On an up side, it's really fun to hear people talk who are natives of Texas. My first relief society lesson was taught by one such woman and I had a hard time paying attention to what she was saying because of how she was saying it was so funny to me.

With two kids in school, two kids at home, swim lessons, new callings, trying to make friends (adults and kids), searching for land, and still organizing our stuff from the move, life has been busy and full. The boys love their new school, teachers, primary classes, and are making friends fast. Swim lessons are a highlight of the week for them. Emily just turned 10 months old and is into EVERYTHING! How does one forget so easily that a crawling baby is a mess maker?

This isn't a very good picture but we had a really good time. We attended and Celtic Faire near Austin, TX that was a lot of fun. Good food, fun kids area, lots of people dressed up as knights and the boys got to play with their foam swords.

 

 

 

Isaac and Erich's first day of school for 2013. Erich started 2nd grade and is really loving to read. His favorite books are "the magic tree house" series. Isaac started 1st grade and is a wiz at spelling.

 

 

 We recently joined the YMCA close to our house and signed up all three boys for swim lessons right away. They really look forward to lessons each week and have already graduated from their first levels. The energy outlet is a must for such rowdy boys. They have their hopes set on trying gymnastics soon.

A new friend of ours from church is a photographer and agreed to take some family photos for us a few weeks ago. Although the mosquitoes were out in full force and it was really hard to keep the kids attention, I think the pictures turned out beautifully and I'm grateful we finally have family photos with Emily in them. More of these pictures will be posted as we get them from the photographer.

 

Our lives are busy and chaotic but we wouldn't change it for anything!
